Background

I transitioned from graphic design to UX around 5 years ago. My problem solving skills, empathic nature and desire to make a difference made UX a great fit.

I moved into a fledgling UX team with one other designer and learned on the job from my peers, through self-guided study and formal training. Part of my role included advocating for UX, educating colleagues and establishing buy-in.

In my initial role, I took charge of a web app for onboarding temporary nurses within an agile development team, overseeing UI, content, branding, and component design. Introducing user research for the first time, we swiftly evolved from a product without user involvement to one with designs tested before coding. I also introduced personas, stakeholder interviews, component libraries, and customer journey mapping to the team.

As demand for UX and UI grew, the team expanded. With dedicated researchers, the team was able to integrate user research into discovery processes and adopt a more data-led approach to design. I was able to focus on design, expanding and deepening my UX knowledge whilst working across multiple projects.

In 2020, I introduced design thinking frameworks during an app redesign work stream, transforming the product process from business-led to user-centred. These methods evolved iteratively into the group's product cycle process today.

Now as a senior designer, I enjoy working on a variety of projects, whether its owning end-to-end design or supporting colleagues. I collaborate closely with research and content functions and thrive in cross-functional teams.

I value continuous improvement and consistently work to optimise processes. I advocate for ethical, accessible solutions, ensuring that deliverables from the UX team adhere to WCAG 2 design standards.

I've found satisfaction in recent projects focused on establishing information architecture and building component libraries. Looking ahead, I'm eager to delve into AI design.
